Our City

The cathedral city of St Albans has been welcoming visitors for over 2,000 years. Set against a backdrop of historic buildings, the city is compact and easy to explore on foot. The magnificent Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban dominates the skyline. Beyond the Cathedral is the green oasis of Verulamium, 100 acres of tranquil parkland close to the heart of the city. The Roman history of the City is presented at Verulamium Museum, Hypocaust and Roman Theatre. St Albans Museum tells the story of the city from the departure of the Romans to the present day. There are many other appealing visitor attractions including the Gardens of the Rose and the soon to be completed Butterfly World on the city's southern outskirts. The Alban Arena plays host to theatre, comedy, cinema, exhibitions and other cultural events and there are a number of other theatres and performance spaces. The city is home to hundreds of clubs and organisations. Above all it is the people of St Albans that make this city both a vibrant community and a special place to live, work and visit.
